Having been around for so many years, even before the start of the online gambling industry, helped Scientific Games to gain a credible reputation for itself. It found that it could use the expertise that it had built up and leverage this under a brand name that already had meaning in an industry that was more or less, for all intents and purposes very closely related. While its headquarters were in the United States, that did not stop it in terms of its ambitions and is one of the reasons for its major success as a company today.
Scientific games
Headquartered in Las Vegas, Scientific Games is actually operational across six continents and is considered a world leader in terms of gambling software, with more than 80 years of trading history having being founded in 1932, under a different name; parent company, Bally Technologies.
Scientific Games became the company's group trading name in 1973 following a number of corporate reshuffles and business changes and has grown significantly over the decades, now employing over 9,000 staff worldwide.
In 2021 Scientific Games witnessed considerably further growth following the legalization of online gambling in a number of US states which saw demand for its services increase materially.
Originally though, the Scientific Games Corporation was responsible for servicing the land-based casino sector and, being based in Las Vegas NV was perfectly positioned to be able to cater for the many casinos that straddled the famed strip.
Their technological expertise has been called on by some of the most prestigious casinos in the "city that never sleeps" and they still continue to provide these services today. However, like any good business, they also adapted to the times and as a result of the start of the internet in the 1990s, this saw the gradual birth of online gambling.
Because of this, Scientific Games were quick to react and began to divide its focus, committing resources to adding an online gambling software development division. Unsurprisingly, this is the most lucrative arm of their business today. The company boasts an annual turnover that exceeds $3 billion, while its assets total over $8 billion. With offices also in Chicago, Stockholm, Tel Aviv and also Manchester (England), they are one of the only, truly worldwide software development companies in the online gambling industry.
